Let's face it.  Eating healthy living in New Orleans is not easy.  There are so many reasons to indulge:  holidays, birthdays, vacation, or because it's Thursday (or wait, that's just me).  So every spring, I pledge to put the last bit of king cake down, eat better and lose a few pounds.  But I need help.  My definition of healthy eating was switching to baked chips and only ordering dessert every OTHER meal.  I had no clue how many calories I was consuming on a daily basis.  Yes, I have been know to stop for gas AND a bag of Raisinets and an Almond Joy( the almond for protein, of course).  I needed to detox, bad.  It was time to get serious.  I called called Betty Nguyen, creator of Skinny Course, to get me on the right path to clean eating and real weight loss results.  I have known Betty for years from her wildly popular restaurants in Old Gretna, Thanh Thanh and Huey' P Pizzeria.  I loved eating at her restaurants so much that I often get Betty to cater my parties. 

Betty understands that most people like me want to eat healthy and lose weight but do not want or have the time to meal prep AND work out everyday (or at all).  She created Skinny Course meal plan designed to give busy people delicious, calorie-controlled, restaurant-quality prepared meals.  Skinny course includes 3 meals/day (breakfast, lunch and dinner).  Each meal is low in fat and carbs and under 400 calories.  According to Betty, it's pretty simple.  To maintain weight, typically the average person should only consume about 2000 calories a day.  Unfortunately, a normal meal dining out is could easily be over 2000 calories!  One meal!  Really?!  So if you restrict your calorie intake, you WILL lose weight.  Betty has seen her clients lose on average 2-7 lbs a week.  The Skinny Course 4-week plan takes the guess work out by pre-selecting all your meals from a wide range of comfort foods This plan allows the client to adjust to new eating habits and start seeing REAL results in weight loss.  Most clients have chosen to continue with the program beyond the initial 4 weeks to even more weight loss.

Betty offered some tips on stay on course even on the weekends:

  • Drink lots of water. 
  • Snack better..think apples, Greek yogurt, plain nuts.  If you have to eat a packaged snack, keep it under 130 calories like Pop Chips.  
  • Read labels!  Know your calorie, sugar and fat intake.  Try to keep your daily calorie intake under 1500. 

So, remember the majority of your loss weight is dependent on your diet.  Eating low-calorie balanced meals will get you to your ideal weight faster and get you on course (Skinny Course, that is) to a healthier lifestyle.
